Regen-by-2 & Robinson: one year of research to reduce emissions
On September 21 and 22 the M12 of the ROBINSON and the REGEN-BY-2 projects (EU H2020) were held on-line.
During the meetings, the progresses of the two projects in this first year of activity were shared. The discussion focused on the results obtained to date, in particular with regard to the laboratory research and the beginning of the definition of the specifications for the final prototypes.
ROBINSON (https://www.robinson-h2020.eu)
ROBINSON
aims to help decarbonize islands through a smart modular Energy
Management System (EMS), as well as innovative storage and energy
technologies. The EMS will ensure an integration of all distributed
energy resources (DER), coupling locally available energy sources,
electrical and thermal networks, thanks to a system demonstrated in
industrial environment on the Eigeroy island, Norway. ROBINSON's
integrated system will ensure a reliable, cost-efficient and resilient
energy supply contributing to the decarbonization of the European
islands by helping to decrease CO2 emissions.
Within the ROBINSON project the main exploitation intention of HYSYTECH is the development of a cost-effective technology for wastewater treatment and biomethane production (scalable AD-BES prototype of 1 m3). With the LEITAT support, HYSYTECH will scale-up and develop an anaerobic digestion system assisted by a bioelectrochemical unit (AD BES) enabling conversion of liquid waste from fish industry into biomethane to be used as a fuel.
REGEN-BY-2 (https://www.regen-by-2.eu)
Within the REGEN-BY-2 a multi-generation, all-in-one integrated energy plant foreseen by the project will be built. The
plant will be able to convert any type of RES (Renewable Energy
Sources) thermal sources, from low to high temperature (i.g. solar,
aerothermal, geothermal, hydrothermal, biomass, landfill gas, sewage
treatment plant gas and biogas), to supply simultaneous multiple
typologies of end-users with different energy demands.
The plant REGEN-BY-2 intends to make an important contribution to the EU's "Europe 2020" strategy for the integration of energy systems, which expects to reach 32% of the gross final consumption of energy from renewable sources by 2030.
