Stirling Cryogenics & AB collaborate on a new technology

Stirling Cryogenics (a company of the HYSYTECH group, based in Italy) and AB, company based in Orzinuovi (Brescia, Italy), are collaborating on the design, construction, installation and maintenance of liquid biomethane production plants with cryogenerators based on Stirling technology.

This technology is based on a consolidated process, already used worldwide in over 3,000 cryogenic installations, employing a "proven-technology" consolidated over decades of operation in the most varied sectors, from superconductors to nuclear-physics research.

From the agreement AB will produce a product line called CH4LNG, the liquefier designed as a single unit, set up with cryogenerators built by Stirling Cryogenics for bio-LNG systems up to 12 tpd (tons \ day), suitable for the liquefaction of biomethane for small and medium-sized biogas upgrading plants.

Combined with the BIOCH4NGE upgrading solution (AB product line for biogas upgrading), CH4LNG allows the transformation of biogas into Bio-LNG carbon neutral, effectively contributing to the energy transition and decarbonization effort, in line with European policies.

The agreement allows to combine the strenghts of the two companies to seize the significant opportunities in the biomethane and bio-LNG market.

Stirling Cryogenics (www.stirlingcryogenics.eu)

It is a comapny based in Eindhoven (Holland) founded by Philips in 1955, today owned by HYSYTECH S.r.l. The company specializes in the design and implementation of cryogenic solutions based on its range of cryogenerators. All these cryogenerators operate according to the (reverse) Stirling thermodynamic cycle and have a long history of installations and references in terms of reliability and high efficiency, in particular in the field of cryogenic temperatures down to 15K. One of the main products are single stage liquefaction systems, capable od reaching operating temperatures down to 77K. Depending on the application, cryogenerators can liquefy or (re)-liquefy cold gas. The type of gas or liquid depends on the application, commonly nitrogen, oxygen, methane, argon, hydrogen, helium and CO2. To meet the needs of various applications, the systems are integrated with a wide range of products for the generation and purification of gases, cryogenic fans and circulators, pumps, heat exchangers and cryostats, vessels and pipes with insulation for cryogenic uses. Typical applications cover LNG \ bio-LNG liquefaction, boil-off gas (re)-liquefaction, hydrogen liquefaction, cryogenic cells for biological storage, superconductor cooling (HTS), cooling of MRI magnets, space simulation chambers, hospital oxygen generation, among any others.

AB (www.gruppoab.com)

Since 1981 AB has been supporting companies that want to increase their competitiveness, saving energy and limiting emissions into the environment, thanks to a know-how and a production capacity consolidated over time and a high quality installation and after-sales service. The mail production and engineering activities are concentrated in the modern industrial center of Orzinuovi (Brescia, Italy), spread over approximately 34,000 square meters of buildings. The group has over 1,000 employees and is present with direct branches in 21 countries around the world in Europe, Russia, North and South America. Recently AB has further confirmed its leadership in the cogeneration sector with the development of systems for the removal of siloxanes and the treatment of landfill biogas. The company has also enhanced its commitment to biofuels thanks to the development of systems for the purification and liquefaction of biomethane. AB's "green" choice has also led to embarking on new paths, starting with the treatment of atmospheric emissions, with the strategic acquisition of a company specializing in the design, construction and installation of pollutant abatement systems.
