DECADE - Starts the TRL5 validation campaign

The DECADE (EU H2020) consortium met on the 4^th of July at the beautiful island of San Servolo, in Venice, for the M51 General Assembly.

The meeting was very fruitful for discussing the initial testing campaign at University of Messina of the prototype developed by HYSYTECH. The testing campaign has given good outcomes regarding the CO₂ valorization after the prototype improvements carried out by HYSYTECH based on comments from University of Messina.

The DECADE technology will now be tested in the next period at MOTOR OIL premises for the TRL5 validation campaign, with the collaboration of HYSYTECH and University of Messina.

Within DECADE, a new photo-electrocatalytic (PEC) approach has been implemented for the conversion of CO2 avoiding water oxidation as anodic reaction to overcome the current limitations in PEC systems and to maximize effective energy utilization. The proposed PEC system converts sunlight, carbon dioxide and bioethanol into ethyl acetate and ethyl formate, to be used as drop-in green solvent or as octane booster fuel component.
