OCEAN project: the production of high-value C2 chemicals from carbon dioxide using electrochemistry
Progresses of the first 18 months of OCEAN project (H2020, EU) were presented during the review meeting that took place in Brussels the last April 8th.
The discussion was focused on the process and technologies being developed within the project that concerns the production of high-value C2 chemicals from carbon dioxide. More specifically, we discussed about the process for the conversion of CO2 into Formate, on the thermal reactor for the coupling system to convert that Formate into Oxalate and on the electrochemistry processes for the production of oxalic and formic acids and of biopolymers.
Overall, OCEAN aims at addressing the critical elements that are currently hindering new electrochemical processes by targeting high value products, that have the corresponding production margin to introduce this technology on the market with lower power costs.
